Judgement Day

The Bill's bad boy, Eddie Santini, faces trial for murder...

It's what many fans of The Bill have been wanting - to see Sunhill's rogue cop Eddie Santini get his comeuppance! Following last June's explosive storyline, when Eddie - played by handsome Michael Higgs - was charged with murder, viewers inundated The Bill demanding to know what happen next to Eddie and his colleague, Rosie Fox, with whom he had a fiery love-hate relationship.
In this Sunday's special episode, The Trial of Eddie Santini, they get their answer. But will it be the one they want? The Eddie and Rosie saga began nearly two years ago when Rosie, a stunning cop played by Caroline Catz, joined Sunhill. Their scenes fizzed with sexual chemistry. But then Eddie attempted to rape Rosie, tried to strangle her a year later when she returned to Sunhill, and was finally arrested by her for the murder of nightclub woner Jessica Orton. Eddie has been on remand since. Michael, 34, who off screen is rather shy, says the public reaction to Eddie has amazed him.
"Women write and say things like, "You're bad, but you're very sexy." They've sent me their phone numbers and been very upfront about their desires!"
But they'll be kept guessing as to the trial's verdict right up to the end. And along the way there are unexpected moments for both Eddie and Rosie.
"He really did love her, but it was an unhealthy, obsessional love," explains Michael, who reveals that the shock twist at the end even had him open-mouthed when he read through the script! Whatever happens to Eddie, this episode will be Michael's last. But he has been busy making a couple of films, due to be released later this year, acting on stage and decorating his London flat.
Yes, he says, there is someone special in his life at the moment, but he refuses to be drawn, "just in case everything goes wrong. It all gets dragged up again and again in print and you have to keep suffering the hurt."
Something Eddie definetly wouldn't understand! Lucia Green
